The government plans to establish 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas and expand Kendriya Vidyalaya Shivamogga.Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across the country. Additionally, one existing KV—Kendriya Vidyalaya Shivamogga in Karnataka—will be expanded to accommodate a growing number of students. This decision aims to ensure that quality education is accessible to the children of government employees in various regions.

Under the Central Sector Scheme of Kendriya Vidyalaya’s, the government has sanctioned the creation of 85 new schools in the Civil/Defence sector. Along with this, an expansion of Kendriya Vidyalaya Shivamogga is planned to address the increasing demand for educational services in the district. The expansion will include the addition of two additional sections in each class, allowing more students to enroll. The total estimated cost for the establishment of the 85 new KVs and the expansion of one existing school stands at INR 5,872.08 crore over a period of eight years, starting from 2025-26. This amount includes capital expenditure of approximately INR 2,862.71 crore and operational expenditure of INR 3,009.37 crore.

Expanding the Reach of Quality Education: New Kendriya Vidyalayas

The Government of India, under the Central Sector Scheme of Kendriya Vidyalayas, has approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country. Additionally, Kendriya Vidyalaya Shivamogga in Karnataka will be expanded to accommodate a growing number of students.

Benefits of Expansion:

A Brief History of Kendriya Vidyalayas:

Established in 1962, Kendriya Vidyalayas were initially designed to cater to the educational needs of the children of transferable central government employees. Today, they serve a broader population, including children of defense personnel, paramilitary forces, and those residing in remote areas.

The Future of Kendriya Vidyalayas:

As PM Shri Schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas are at the forefront of implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This policy aims to transform the Indian education system and promote holistic development. By adopting innovative teaching methods, modern infrastructure, and a focus on experiential learning, Kendriya Vidyalayas are setting new standards in education.
