UGC NET 2025 Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the UGC NET exam, candidates must meet specific criteria related to nationality, educational qualifications, and age limit.
Nationality:
Only Indian citizens are eligible to appear for the UGC NET exam. This includes Indian citizens residing both within and outside India. Candidates residing abroad must provide appropriate documentation to prove their Indian citizenship.

Candidates should have completed their post-graduation from a UGC-recognised college/university. Minimum marks for General Category is 55% and for reserved categories including SC/ST/OBC/PwD is 50% marks.
A relaxation of five per cent in educational qualification is given to reserved category candidates
Candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) before June 1, 2002, are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam
UGC NET 2025 Age Limit
As of June 1, 2025, candidates applying for the JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) must be 30 years of age or younger. There is no upper age limit for those applying for the Assistant Professor position. A 5-year age relaxation is provided for reserved category candidates.
UGC NET 2025 Exam Pattern
The UGC NET exam is a 3-hour computer-based test (CBT) consisting of two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers contain objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The total number of questions is 150, and there is no negative marking

UGC NET 2025 Syllabus
The syllabus of the UGC NET exam is prescribed by the UGC NET exam. It is divided into Paper 1 and Paper 2.
